    What are my travel options to get to Thompson?

    • ROAD - Thompson is 485 miles north of Winnipeg on all-paved Highway #6. Travel time is about 8 hours.
    • BUS - Greyhound Bus offers daily travel from Winnipeg to Thompson. See www.greyhound.ca

    How do I get the special Calm Air return rate to Thompson?

    • You must PHONE Calm Air directly as the Official Conference Airline that flies from Winnipeg to Thompson with several flights daily. Use the Reservation Code to get the discounted rate.

    What are the hotel choices?

    • The primary hotels are listed on the Registration Form. Call them with the Conference Code to get best rates.

    Are you allowing student or research presentations?

    • Yes. Researchers or students who would like to present a scientific paper or poster to an exclusive audience should contact Kathryn McNaughton, V.P., University College of the North (www.ucn.ca). Accepted papers may be published. Email PDF or .doc files to: [email protected]

    Is the Churchill Polar Bear Expedition part of the Conference?

    • It is being offered as an optional and separate air charter tour on October 22, 2012. You must book this separately with Frontiers North, Churchill. See Conference Brochure for information.

    Will I have to budget for meals?

    • All meals on October 23 & 24, 2012 will be provided at Conference venue.

    What is the weather like in Thompson in late October?

    • Normal weather will be a few degrees above freezing and dip below freezing at night. There always is a slim chance it can snow. This is the North!

    Is wi-fi service available in Thompson?

    • Most hotels have wi-fi service. Check with your hotel.

    Will my cell phone work?

    • Only if your carrier is connected to Rogers or MTS communications provider.

    Will all topics and discussions focus on northern Manitoba?

    • Some topics will cover northern Manitoba but with a constant overview as it applies to broader wolf and ecosystem issues.
    • Papers are being allowed on broader topics if they can fit into one of the four themes.

    How can I get to Churchill, the Polar Bear Capital of the World?

    • There is no road to Churchill. Travel is only by Calm Air and Via Rail on certain days of the week.
